Jannat al-Mu’alla is a cemetery in Mecca that has existed since the pre-Islamic period. It is located about 2 km north of the Haram and near the Masjid al-Jinn. In pre-Islamic and early Islamic history, this place was known as Hacun.
The cemetery houses the sacred graves of Hazrat Khadijah al-Kubra (may Allah be pleased with her), the mother of the believers, as well as many Companions (Sahaba), Tabi‘un, and righteous people. Among those buried here are Abdullah ibn Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him), Asma, the eldest daughter of Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with her), Abdurrahman, the son of Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), Uthman ibn Talha (may Allah be pleased with him), and other prominent Companions. The graves of the Prophet Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) sons, Qasim and Abdullah, are also located here.
Hazrat Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her) passed away about three years before the Hijra. The Prophet himself lowered her into her grave and was deeply saddened by her death.
