Masjid al-Jinn (the Mosque of the Jinn) is located near Jannat al-Mu’alla. At different times and places, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) would recite the Qur’an to convey the message to the jinn. On one occasion, while going with Abdullah ibn Mas‘ud, he drew a line in the ground and asked him not to cross it, then recited the Qur’an to the jinn beyond the line.
The mosque built at this site was named Masjid al-Jinn. The first mosque here was constructed in 1700 by an architect named Ibrahim Agha who came to Mecca. The latest building, constructed in 1362 AH (1943 CE), was demolished in 2000 and completely rebuilt in a modern style.
