Before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived in Madinah, the first group of emigrants (Muhajirun) established in Quba had turned a date-drying yard belonging to the clan of Banu ‘Amr ibn ‘Awf into a mosque. When the Prophet (peace be upon him) reached Quba, he expanded the site and built the Quba Mosque. After the land was prepared, the Prophet himself laid the first stone of the foundation, and then asked Abu Bakr, ‘Umar, ‘Uthman (may Allah be pleased with them all), and others to place their stones in succession.
